3 Vulnerable Parts of Your Roof and How to Care For Them

While most if not all roofs are built to be sturdy, resilient and durable, they are not without their weaknesses. Even the most expensive roof installed by the most experienced roofing contractor will have its own set of weak components that are especially susceptible to damage, especially over time. This is why it is important that you know which parts of the roof are the most vulnerable and how to care for them.

1. Shingles or Tiles

The top layer of your roof bears the brunt of the elements so it is easy to see why they are most vulnerable to damage. Fortunately, most outer layer issues are easy to spot. Your asphalt shingles may crack, warp, or lose their granules while your tiles may crack. Never skip your regular maintenance appointments or you could be dealing with underlayment or roof deck issues later down the line.

2. Flashing

Roof flashing is a thin material, typically made of metal, that your residential roofing contractor installs in areas of penetration on your roof such as chimneys, roof vents, or skylights. Since they are made of metal, they are prone to corrosion. Make it a habit to check your flashing often and apply seam tape or replace damaged ones as needed.

3. Ridge Vents

Ridge vents are air exhaust vents installed at the peak of a roof. Since they are located at the very top, leaks are likely to form at this spot. Be sure to inspect this part of your roof by checking inside your attic for signs of water infiltration under the vents. If you notice wet or stained wood, then you should schedule an appointment with your roofer to have your vents replaced right away.

From minor residential repairs to full-on commercial roofing replacement and everything in between, trust in Roof Pro LLC to exceed even your highest expectations. Give us call at (678) 562-6071 or fill out our contact form to schedule an appointment today.
